Personalized Lab Testing at Lake Forest Regenesis
Provider-Guided Testing That Starts Every Plan
Lake Forest Regenesis offers comprehensive lab testing for adults in Lake Forest, Chicago’s North Shore, and Lake County. Labs are the foundation of nearly every plan we build, from hormones and thyroid to weight, energy, sexual health, and preventive care.
Your blood is drawn right here in our office by our staff or by Allana, so there’s no separate trip to an outside lab. Then Allana walks you through what your results actually mean, in plain language, and how they connect to the way you feel.
Good lab testing isn’t about ordering every test available. It’s about choosing the right panel for your symptoms and goals, drawing it at the right time, and reading the results in context. It’s part of our Functional Medicine care, and it supports every other service we offer.
Why Lab Testing Matters
Your Symptoms Tell Part of the Story. Your Labs Tell the Rest.
Fatigue, weight changes, low libido, poor sleep, hair thinning, and brain fog can come from many different causes. Two people with the same symptoms can have completely different reasons behind them. Lab testing helps separate one cause from another, so treatment is based on what’s actually happening in your body, not guesswork.
Labs also give you a baseline. Once you know your starting numbers, follow-up testing shows whether your plan is working and whether anything needs to change.
Many people are told their labs are “normal” and still don’t feel well. Reference ranges are useful, but they describe a broad population, not you specifically. Our guide to what “normal range” actually means explains why results are best read alongside your symptoms and history.
Labs can also catch changes before they cause symptoms, such as rising blood sugar, shifting cholesterol, or low iron stores, when they are often easier to address.
MedlinePlus, from the National Library of Medicine, is also a helpful general reference on common lab tests.
What Our Panels Cover
A Comprehensive Baseline, Not a Single Snapshot of One System
Our standard panels look at your health across several systems at once, including blood counts, metabolic and kidney health, cholesterol, blood sugar, iron stores, key vitamins and minerals, thyroid function, and hormones. For men, panels also include PSA.
Looking at these systems together matters, because they affect each other. Low iron can mimic thyroid symptoms. Blood sugar problems can affect hormones. Thyroid changes can raise cholesterol. Seeing the whole picture helps avoid chasing one number while missing the real cause.
The exact tests are tailored to your symptoms, history, and goals, and panels may change over time as you progress. If you’re curious about specific markers, our guides to ferritin and iron and vitamin D and B12 are good places to start.
Common Reasons People Get Tested
Energy, Hormones, Thyroid, Metabolism, Sexual Health & Prevention
Fatigue & Low Energy
Ongoing tiredness can have hormonal, thyroid, iron, vitamin, blood sugar, or other metabolic causes.
Hormone Changes
Testing helps evaluate symptoms of low testosterone, perimenopause, or menopause, drawn at the right time of day.
Thyroid Concerns
A full thyroid panel shows more than a single TSH number, including antibodies when appropriate.
Weight & Metabolism
Blood sugar, insulin, cholesterol, thyroid, and hormones can all affect weight and how your body uses energy.
Sexual Health
Low libido or ED often starts with a look at hormones, blood sugar, and heart-health markers.
Preventive Baseline
Knowing your numbers helps catch changes early and gives you a baseline to compare against later.
A Personalized Approach to Lab Testing
Testing Chosen Around Your Symptoms and Goals
Labs are most useful when they’re chosen for a reason and explained clearly. Allana looks at your symptoms, history, and goals, then explains what your body and your labs are telling you, what the results mean for you, and what your options are.
She doesn’t hand you a printout and send you on your way. You’ll understand which results matter most, which are borderline, and what, if anything, needs attention.
You decide what comes next. Sometimes that’s a treatment plan, sometimes it’s a lifestyle change, and sometimes it’s simply peace of mind and a baseline to compare against later.
Results are also compared over time. A value that sits within range but has changed noticeably since your last draw can be just as meaningful as one that’s flagged, and tracking those trends is one of the main reasons a consistent baseline matters.
How to Prepare for Your Lab Draw
Fasting, First Thing in the Morning
Most panels are drawn fasting and first thing in the morning. Fasting gives accurate cholesterol and blood sugar results, since a recent meal can temporarily change those numbers.
Morning timing matters for hormones. Many hormones, like testosterone and cortisol, follow a daily rhythm and run highest in the morning, so an early draw gives a truer, more consistent baseline that can be compared over time.
Plain water is usually fine and helps make the draw easier. Let us know about all medications and supplements before your draw, since some, like biotin, can affect certain results.
On the day of your draw, wear a top with sleeves that roll up easily, bring a list of current medications and supplements, and plan to eat soon afterward. If you tend to feel lightheaded with blood draws, let us know so we can have you lie back.
Ways to Pay for Labs
Flexible Options, Including Your Own Insurance
Labs can be covered as part of your initial consultation or a membership that includes labs, paid in cash, or billed to your own health insurance through our partner lab.
We don’t bill insurance ourselves; the lab bills your insurer directly. That means your coverage, copays, and deductibles are set by your plan and handled between you, your insurer, and the lab.
If you’re unsure which option makes the most sense for you, ask when you book. We’re happy to walk you through how each one works so there are no surprises.
Whichever option you choose, the testing itself is the same: a comprehensive panel drawn in our office and reviewed with you by Allana. How you pay doesn’t change how carefully your results are read.

Labs & Hormones
Why Timing and the Full Picture Matter
Hormone results depend on more than one number. Timing, binding proteins, and how hormones interact all affect what a result means.
For example, a protein called SHBG binds testosterone and estrogen and affects how much is actually available to your body. Two people with the same total testosterone can have very different free levels. Our guides to SHBG and total vs. free testosterone explain this in more detail.
That’s why we test in the morning and review results in context, as part of hormone optimization. It’s also why it’s possible to have hormone symptoms with “normal” labs.
Labs & Your Thyroid
Seeing the Whole Feedback Loop
TSH measures how much your pituitary is signaling your thyroid, not thyroid function itself. When your thyroid is underactive, the pituitary often pushes harder, and TSH rises.
A full thyroid panel shows the whole feedback loop, including the thyroid hormones themselves and, when appropriate, thyroid antibodies. That gives a clearer picture of where something may be off and where adjustments may help. The NIH overview of thyroid tests explains these markers in more detail.
Our thyroid panel guide walks through TSH, free T4, and free T3, and our thyroid care page explains how we treat what we find.
Who May Benefit From Testing
Adults with ongoing symptoms like fatigue, weight changes, low libido, or brain fog; those starting or adjusting a treatment plan; and anyone wanting a clear baseline as part of a consultation. Our guide to preventive care lab tests covers labs commonly discussed during routine care.

Lab Testing Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to Common Questions About Preparing, Insurance & Thyroid Testing
Do I need to fast before my lab draw?
Usually, yes. Most panels are drawn fasting and first thing in the morning for the most accurate results. We'll confirm your instructions when you book.
Can I drink water before my labs?
Plain water is usually fine and can make the draw easier. Avoid coffee, food, and other drinks unless we tell you otherwise.
Can I use my insurance for labs?
Yes. Labs can be billed to your insurance through our partner lab. We don't bill insurance ourselves, and coverage depends on your plan.
Why test in the morning?
Many hormones, like testosterone and cortisol, are highest in the morning, so an early draw gives a more accurate, comparable baseline.
Is a TSH test enough to check my thyroid?
Not always. TSH shows how hard your pituitary is signaling your thyroid. A full panel gives a more complete picture.
My labs were "normal" but I still feel off. Why?
Reference ranges describe a broad population, not you. We read your results alongside your symptoms and history to see the full picture.

A Personal Message From Your Provider
Your Labs Are Part of Your Story
“I like to look at what your body is telling us and what your labs are telling us together. Neither one tells the whole story on its own.
When results come back, I explain what they mean for you, which numbers matter most, and how they connect to the way you’ve been feeling. Then I lay out your options, honestly, including when nothing needs to change.
You decide where we go from here. My job is to make sure you understand your own health well enough to make that choice.”
